Mikel Obi set for Stoke City move

Former super eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel is set to join Championship side, Stoke City.

Obi is expected to have his medicals in the coming days after which a deal will be signed.

The former Trabzonspor midfielder quit the Turkish club in April over coronavirus fears.

According to Brila.net, Swansea City reportedly showed interest in the former Chelsea midfielder, but Stoke City has now moved ahead in the negotiations and are now in pole position to sign the player.

The 33-year-old also attracted interest from Italian side Benevento and Brazilian giants Botafogo, but he turned down the offers because he wants to stay close to his family in England.

Should the transfer to Stoke City go through, Mikel will join his compatriot, Oghenekharo Etebo at the Bet 360 stadium, Brila.net said.
