Leicester boss Rogers explains why Ndidi came off the bench against Chelsea

Leicester City manager Brendan Rogers has explained his decision to start Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi from the bench during The Foxes clash against Chelsea on Saturday, August 27.

Leicester City lost 2-1 to the Blues at Stamford Bridge in what was their third defeat in four PL matches this season.

The 2015/2016 title winners have only managed a single draw in four outings in the current campaign and currently sit bottom on the League log.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has been the centrepiece of Leicester's midfield for a couple of seasons now.

Justifying his decision to start Ndidi from the bench, the former Liverpool boss said, "We wanted to come through the pitch quicker. Soumare has been great in training and he’s committed now to staying at the club, which is great, Rogers told the BBC.

“He (Soumare) allows us to play through the thirds quickly and that was the reason for him coming in instead,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ndidi's Super Eagles teammate Kelechi Iheanacho came on as a 55th-minute substitute to replace Soumare.
