The cricket oval of the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos is wearing a new look after the federation upgraded several of the facilities inside the traditional home of cricket in the country, The PUNCH reports.

President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Professor Yahaya Ukwenya, said several other facilities were being upgraded despite the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The federation boss said work was also ongoing at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja cricket oval.

He said, “A lot has been happening behind the scene, maybe not on the pitch of play but a lot of work has been going on at the sites. These works involve a lot of planning, online seminars have taken place, and we have also used the opportunity of the lockdown to make a little bit of progress on our facilities upgrade, which is going on in Lagos and Abuja as well.”

Ukwenya added, “We also want to take cricket back to schools in a more determined way to create awareness for people who at least understand the game in the society. This is one of the things that we are looking at.”
