LaLiga: ‘I wasn’t happy with him’ – Sevilla manager on why he benched Akor Adams

Sevilla manager, Matias Almeyda, has claimed that he dropped Akor Adams for their 2-0 loss to Valencia on Saturday, because he was unhappy with his performance against Barcelona last week.

So far, Adams has scored seven goals and provided assists in 23 appearances, making him the team’s top scorer.

But Almeyda picked Neal Maupay to start at the Estadio Ramo Sanchez Pizjuan ahead of the Nigerian striker.

The change did not yield the desired outcome, as Sevilla were two goals down by half time, thanks to goals from Hugo Duro and Largie Ramazani.

This led to Almeyda bringing on Adams at the start of the second half, although they ultimately failed to score.

Speaking after the defeat, Almeyda explained: ”We have three strikers. I’m trying them out to see who scores the goals.

”I brought Neal back after his injury. I wasn’t happy with Akor’s last game, so we tried to rotate the squad. It’s very difficult to please everyone.”
