Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has debunked rumours of his sacking following Los Blancos' disappointing defeat to Celta Vigo in the Spanish La Liga.

After returning to the Santiago Bernabéu after six consecutive away matches, the 15-time European champions were stunned 2-0 on Sunday night.

Swedish international Williot Swedberg scored two stunning second-half goals to secure the victory for the away side.

The result leaves Real Madrid four points behind rivals Barcelona, who secured an impressive 5-3 victory away at Betis on Saturday.

According to widespread reports, the Real Madrid hierarchy are considering sacking the former midfielder should he lose against Manchester City in their next game in the UEFA Champions League.

Reacting to the rumours, Alonso stated that he is currently thinking about their next game and not the sacking rumours.

“Rumours I’m getting fired? I’m not thinking of that, I’m just thinking of Wednesday’s game,” Alonso said at his post-match interview.

“We are all united,” he stated.
