General Manager, Kwara United FC, Bashir Badawiy, says they are waiting for a swift response from the Court of Arbitration for Sport ahead of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draws on Friday.

The Harmony Boys rejected the Nigeria Football Federation’s Appeals Committee’s ruling, which awarded three points and three goals to Rivers United in their NPFL tie against Jigawa Golden Stars.

Jigawa were docked both points and goals for fielding an ineligible player in the tie.

The decision meant Rivers, who were sixth with 63 points, climbed to second place with 66 points, overtaking Enyimba on goals difference while Kwara slumped to fourth place, despite initially ending the season with 65 points and +20 goals difference, which guaranteed them third place on the final NPFL table and a CAF Confederation Cup ticket.

With CAF announcing that the draws for the preliminary rounds of the 2021/22 Champions League and Confederation Cup would take place on Friday in Cairo, Bashir is hopeful justice would be served on time.

“The Appeals Committee made their judgment open on Tuesday and still denied us our chance and we are seeking justice from CAS, but it depends on the timing,” he told The PUNCH.

“We await a quick response from them (CAS), be it positive or negative because immediately after the kangaroo judgment on Tuesday by the Appeal Committee, we filed our case and it is on the table of CAS and all we wait for now is their response and we hope that the timing will be perfect.

“What is happening now is unfair because we qualified through the field of play and someone from nowhere just dished out three points to the other team just for them to qualify after we’ve suffered on the pitch.”
