Anthony Joshua has returned to training at Ben Davison’s Essex gym as he awaits the outcome of the contract dispute holding up his proposed showdown with Tyson Fury.
The 36-year-old officially parted ways with Davison following his heavy defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024, after which he linked up with Oleksandr Usyk’s training team in Spain, guiding him to victories over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga over the past nine months.
Joshua had hoped to finally secure a fight against Fury, with November earmarked for the pair to clash, but the bout has been held up by a discrepancy in their contracts.
Joshua’s deal stipulates that the fight must take place in the UK, while Fury’s contract carries no such clause, complicating plans for a proposed showdown at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 20.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has since sent an addendum to the original contract, but Fury has publicly declared that he now considers the fight off and is seeking a different opponent.
While the dispute continues, Joshua is keeping himself in fighting shape and has returned to train with Davison, with the pair said to have remained on good terms and kept in touch over the past two years.
A source close to the camp told Ring Magazine that Joshua wanted to keep ticking over in familiar surroundings and asked Davison for his help.
A picture posted by Frazer Clarke on Monday, showing him alongside Joshua and fellow Davison heavyweight Jeamie TKV, confirmed the short-term switch, though there are currently no plans for Joshua to return to the camp on a full-time basis once his next fight is confirmed.
