It’s in talks - Super Eagles forward comments on contract extension amid Valladolid interest

Super Eagles star Josh Maja has neatly ruled out a move away from Bordeaux as he speaks on a contract extension to have him stay at the Matmut Atlantique.

Nigeria International Josh Maja has disclosed that negotiations to extend his contract with FC Girondins de Bordeaux are underway.

In the face of interest from Spanish La Liga club Real Valladolid, the Nigerian star has said unequivocally that he would sign a new deal with the French.

It is reasonable to say that the Anglo-Nigerian attacker, whose contract expires by June 2023, has been superb for the Ligue 2 club this season, and he has had a significant impression for David Guion’s team.

The forward has scored seven goals and contributed three assists for his team in 16 appearances.

Soccernet.ng revealed earlier that the Nigerian was rumoured with a move to Spain, as Valladolid is in desperate need of a striker when the January transfer market opens.

Despite this, The Nigerian forward, according to girondins4ever, claimed that he treasures the regular team jersey he is given by Guion, which will make him want to remain at the club.

Meanwhile, he added that he is focused on being good on the field and that  “extra sporty things” would settle on their own.

“What is the status of my contract extension? It’s in talks. For now, I am focused on being good with the team on the field. And let extra sporty things settle on their own.” says Maja.

The Nigerian striker, on the other hand, finely ruled out a transfer away from France.

“But the more the season progresses, the more we will discuss. And when the time comes, it will happen. If I see myself continuing here? Yes, honestly, yes. I’m happy here because I play often. Thanks to the confidence of the coach, I have a role in this team. I can’t complain, I’m happy,” he added.

The attacker, on the other hand, is eager to make an impression for his team when they play second-placed Sochaux on Friday.
