Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has shared his thoughts on the Super Eagles' disappointing loss to Guinea-Bissau in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday, September 29.

The Wild Dogs thumped the Super Eagles 3-0 at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau to claim top spot in Group L.

Franculino Djú gave the Djurtus the lead on the quarter-hour mark to ensure that the home side went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.

Mama Baldé scored after the break to give the home side a two-goal cushion before Álvaro Djaló sealed the victory in stoppage time.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has come under massive criticism from fans who believe the Chippa United goalie conceded some cheap goals in the game.

Ikpeba, however, believes the defenders should be blamed for the goals the team conceded and not the goalkeeper.

The former striker believes the team defended poorly and Nwabali couldn't have done anything to prevent the second and the third goals.

"They possessed the momentum. What an excellent placement. Technically superior goal; it appears straightforward on television. Observe it. There was nothing Nwabali could have done. It struck the post and went in. Thus, he understood where he intended to direct it," Ikpeba told SuperSport.

"Defensively, we didn't defend well. If you don't defend well in this type of game and you qualify for the AFCON, defensively, we were poor."
