Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho is hopeful of remaining at Celtic next season after enjoying a remarkable 10-month spell in which he helped the club win the league and Scottish Cup titles.
The 29-year-old rounded off his scoring campaign for the club on Saturday as Celtic beat Dunfermline 3-1 to win the Scottish Cup, seven days after clinching the Scottish Premiership title.
Celtic’s 43rd Scottish Cup triumph capped an impressive end to the season for the Scottish giants. It also marked the club’s 14th league and Scottish Cup double.
Iheanacho was particularly impressive in the final stretch of the season, scoring six goals in Celtic’s last 10 games to inspire their success.
The forward joined Celtic as a free agent from Spanish club Sevilla in September 2025, with the Scottish club holding the option of extending his contract by another year.
This past season, Iheanacho scored nine goals and provided one assist in 23 appearances for Celtic, convincing the club to consider activating the extension option amid fears of losing several key players.
“It feels really good, my first Scottish Cup, and I am really happy. It was a crazy season, and this is a proud moment for everybody. We will cherish this moment. I think this season will go down in the history of the club, and we are happy,” Iheanacho said after the game.
“I’ve done 10 months, and I have won two trophies. I am really happy, and so is my family and the fans.
“I hope at the start of next season I am still a Celtic player, but we’ll leave that to everyone at the club to sort out.”
PUNCH Sports Extra had earlier reported that the player and the club’s management would hold talks over the possibility of a new deal in the coming days.
