Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has revealed that he could have reached greater heights in his club career.

According to Aiyegbeni, he could have featured for elite clubs such as Real Madrid if he had the right people behind him to support and motivate him to push himself further.

Yakubu enjoyed a successful career in England, playing for the likes of Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Everton.

Reflecting on his club career in an exclusive interview with sports interviewer and YouTube content creator AY Suga, the former Nigerian striker stated that he could have played at the highest level.

“I wish I had someone behind me who could say, ‘You can do more’ and push yourself to another level. I should have played for Real Madrid,” Yakubu said.

Aiyegbeni, who is one of Nigeria's most prolific strikers of his generation, described playing for the Super Eagles as a blessing.

“For me, playing for Nigeria is special. Growing up watching these big guys and then playing with them, for me to put on that shirt is a blessing,” he said.

Aiyegbeni registered 21 goals in 57 appearances for the Super Eagles.
