Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has disclosed that he will retire from the national team at the right time.
The 31-year-old made his international debut with Nigeria in June 2015 and has gone ahead to win 78 caps with the three-time African champions.
The Al-Kholood defender has netted seven goals for Nigeria in his 78 appearances in the colours of the Super Eagles.
In an exclusive chat with PUNCH Sports, the 2023 AFCON Player of the Tournament disclosed that he will not overstay his welcome in the national team when the time comes for him to hang his boots.
“I’m 31 now, and I still feel strong physically and mentally. When the time comes for me to step aside, I’ll know. I’ll be the first one to say, ‘I’m done,’” Ekong told PUNCH Sports.
“I’ll never overstay my welcome. But right now, that’s not top of mind. I still feel like I have something to offer the team.”
