I don’t have confidence in Gernot Rohr led technical crew – Finidi George

Former Super Eagles striker, Finidi George has stated that the Gernot Rohr-led technical crew ain't making use of the materials in the squad.

The star midfielder said the team is over-reliant on individual brilliance for results, rather than teamwork.

The former Ipswich Town and Real Mallorca winger made this statement while reacting to the African Cup of Nations draw.

He said: “The current Super Eagles team are not better than the set that finished third at the 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt. I saw them against Sierra Leone when they conceded three goals in the second half, and they drew that game. All we have seen is individual brilliance, but they don’t function well as a team,” Finidi said on Channels on Friday night.

The three-time African Champions will kick-start their African Cup of Nations campaign against Egypt, before facing Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

Having finished third in the 2019 edition, Gernot Rohr and his Boys will be hoping to go two step further by lifting their fourth title in Cameroon.

“We have yet to see the team play good football under the current technical crew, so I can say I don’t have confidence in the technical crew led by Gernot Rohr. For the team to do well in Cameroon, they must function as a unit and not the individual brilliance we are seeing now,” added Finidi.

Nigeria’s first game is against Egypt on 11 January 2022 at Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adjia in Garoua.
