Daniel Akpeyi disclosed that he’s not disappointed to be omitted from the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Afcon qualifiers, despite being one of the country’s most in-form goalkeepers.

Akpeyi, who has been Kaizer Chiefs’ alternate first choice this season, only managed to make the Eagles standby list, while Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho and John Noble received the nod for the assignment from coach Gernot Rohr.

Speaking to brila.net on his exclusion from the squad, the former Warri Wolves goalie said he respects the choice of the coaches and will always support the team.

“The truth is that is my thoughts open and as far as I’m concerned, nothing surprises me in football anymore, because I’ve been in the game for long to understand what it’s all about,” Akpeyi said.

"All I just need to do is to focus on my clubs because I’m not contracted to the national team. I need to focus on where I have a contract and do my best.

“National team is opened to everyone and it’s a privilege to be called up into the national team.”

“And again, whoever is in charge of the national team can decide to call anyone he likes and I need to support the national team,” he told brila.net.
