Nigeria Professional Football League Champions, Akwa United have been eliminated from this season’s CAF Champions.

The Promise Keepers bowed out of the competition after losing 2-0 to Algerian Champions CR Belouizdad in the second leg of the first preliminary round on Sunday evening.

Akwa United travelled to Algeria with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, but the Algerians fought hard to take the second leg 2-0 to advance to the next round.

The first half ended goalless, but CR Belouizdad scored twice in the final 19 minutes of the second half to take the tie.

Hichem Khefallah broke the deadlock for the Great Chalab from a free kick on the 71st minute, before Chemseddine Nessakh sealed the victory with an 84th-minute penalty kick after Ubong Friday was penalized for fouling an opponent in the box.
