How Anthony Joshua bagged £103m despite three heavy career defeats

Anthony Joshua may have lost the bragging right but definitely not the 'earning right'.

When you chronicle Joshua's earnings from his three career defeats to Andy Ruiz Jr, and back-to-back defeats to pound-for-pound heavyweight boxer Oleksandr Usyk you will discover that the British-born Nigerian has earned over £103 million from these bouts.

It was clearly a heart-breaking defeat for the 32-year-old two-time heavyweight champion but on the brighter side, he will be smiling his way to the bank.

Andy Ruiz Jr (2019)- £25 million

In what was one of the greatest heavyweight upsets of all time, then undefeated Anthony Joshua back in June 2019 tasted his first career defeat against Mexican heavyweight boxer Andy Ruiz Jr.

Ruiz shocked the entire globe with his seventh-round technical knockout against Joshua at the Madison Square Gardens.

Despite the defeat, Joshua pocketed £25m.

Oleksandr Usyk (2021)- £15 million

In his first bout against Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021 at the packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, the two-time heavyweight champion, Joshua earned £15m as per the Mirror.

It was AJ's second career defeat as he lost via unanimous decision to Usyk.

Oleksandr Usyk (2022)- £63.5 million

Anthony Joshua failed in his bid to reclaim his lost belt in the rematch against the Ukrainian on Saturday, August 20 as he lost via split decision at the King Abdullah Sports Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

It was a painful defeat for the 32-year-old who sobbed in his post-fight interview.

The silver lining to Joshua's defeat is that he earned £63.5m which is equivalent to $75m.
