Heartbreaking as footballer tragically loses his life after crocodile attack

In a devastating incident in Costa Rica's Santa Cruz region, Jesus Alberto Lopez Ortiz, a football player affectionately known as Chucho, met a tragic end.

Chucho played for Deportivo Río Canas in the Costa Rican Ascenso League. The heartbreaking cause of his passing was a vicious crocodile attack.

As per the Police report, via Marca, Chucho fell victim to the crocodile while in the Canas river.

The exact circumstances leading to his demise remain unclear, leaving doubts whether he drowned or succumbed to the immense pressure exerted by the aggressive animal during the attack.

Eyewitnesses to the incident recounted the unfortunate events of the 29-year-old player, who, while exercising, leaped from a bridge into the waters of the Canas river. Tragically, a crocodile attacked him, leading to his untimely demise.

The local Red Cross verified that the crocodile carried his body away, prompting the police to resort to firearms to neutralize the reptile and retrieve Lopez's remains.

Deportivo Rio Canas issued a heartfelt statement confirming his passing:

"With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our player Jesus Lopez Ortiz (Chucho). May God rest his soul."

"Rest in Peace Chucho, we join the pain of all his family. We will miss you. You are taking a part of all of us with you, dear friend.
