President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has promised to take Nigerian football to its desired heights saying the country’s football should be ranked among the best in the world.

Gusau stated this on Tuesday in Abuja at the inaugural meeting of the board at the Sunday Dankaro NFF House inside the package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Tribune Sports recall that Gusau was elected president at the NFF Elective Congress which was held in Benin City Edo State capital on September 30, 2022.According to the NFF boss, the meeting was fruitful as it centred on the way forward for Nigerian football and how that can be achieved in no small time.

“It was the first time we have a new president receiving the outgoing president coming officially and hand over to the incoming and the secretariat of the NFF.

“We are happy about that and we had a very good discussion with him and he wished us well and we take it from there. We held our inaugural meeting and as you know we discussed about our agenda for the future of Nigerian football and we discussed extensively. We had a fruitful and very nice discussion,” Gusau stated.

Meanwhile, outgone president while speaking with Tribune Sports sought forgiveness from football stakeholders whom he said he might offended in one way or the other.

He however promised to give his total support to the Ibrahim Musa Gusau-led board while also calling on NFF staff to extend the same support given to him to the new president.

“And like I have apologised to everybody, I also want to apologise to you, if you feel bad about what I’ve done, I’m sorry. Let’s work as a team. I’m still very busy around the corridor of global football.

“We have to transmit officially to a new president and also bond we have built. And also talk to the staff that the same support they gave to me they should give to him. Don’t look at him with suspicion and with what you don’t know. We should just start doing the right thing. And that is why I decided at this point to come. He (Gusau) is an excellent guy, he’s somebody that is master politician in terms of football administration and he knows exactly the pains of Nigerians. We have done what we can do and we pray that he takes it from there and being a listening president we believe he will.

“We should understand destiny. If God says do eight years when nobody has done it. My prayer for Gusau is to do 12 years which is statutory. With 12 years, he will master the game and by 12 years he will be close to about 60 something. Danny Jordan is 70 he’s doing third term. He is somebody that will want Nigerians to support.”

He also called on the media to give their support to Nigerian football everytime saying negative report will not augur well for the smooth running of football in the country.

Pinnick said, “You media have a role to play in that area because we can’t just keep on changing president because when they mature in the system, it is healthy for global politics.

“But you people the media have a major role in polishing and rebranding the federation (NFF) because when we are doing what we are not supposed to do, it demarkets the federation.”
