Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has expressed great admiration for Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon following La Roja's triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Athletic Bilbao shot-stopper was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper at the Mundial after conceding just one goal in eight matches for Luis de la Fuente's side.
Atalanta striker Charles De Ketelaere was the only player to get past the 29-year-old during Spain's 2-1 victory over Belgium in the quarterfinals.
In a recent interview with the Guardian, Udinese goalkeeper Okoye stated that top goalkeeping is demonstrated through composure, reading dangerous situations and attention to detail, and not just shot-stopping.
"I found Spain's Unai Simón very impressive, especially towards the final stages," Okoye said.
"Not so much for making hundreds of saves, but for the way he remained inside the game, defending deep balls against France. For me, that was goalkeeping of the highest level."
