Former Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr believes Victor Osimhen can inspire Nigeria to her fourth African Cup of Nations title.
This comes after the 24-year-old was crowned the African Best Player of the Year in the Moroccan city of Marrakech on Monday, December 11.
Osimhen became the first Nigerian international to win the award since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999 beating the likes of Mohammed Salah and Achraf Hakimi.
Congratulating Osimhen on winning the prestigious award, the 70-year-old Rohr said:
“I’m so happy that Osimhen got the Africa Best Player Award of 2023 because he truly deserves it after scoring so many goals and playing so well (for club and country),” the former Super Eagles coach told NationSport.
“Of course, with his goals, he can drive the Super Eagles to AFCON victory; he can do that and I hope that he will.”
The next edition of the AFCON will kick off in Ivory Coast next month.
Nigeria has been in Group A alongside the hosts Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
Nigeria last won the AFCON title in 2013.
