England manager Gareth Southgate has stepped down as head coach of the Three Lions.
This decision comes after England's defeat to Spain in the European Championship final on July 14.
England lost 2-1 to Spain at the Berlin Olympic Stadium, with Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal scoring for La Roja, and Cole Palmer scoring the consolation goal for England.
Southgate, 53, stated that it is time for a new era and change. The official England account on X confirmed Southgate's departure, bidding farewell to the former Aston Villa player after almost a decade in charge.
"After 102 games and nearly eight years in charge, Gareth Southgate has announced he is leaving his role as manager of the Three Lions," the statement read.
Southgate took over as head coach in 2016, following success with England's U-21 team from 2013 to 2016.
During his tenure, he led England to a fourth-place finish at the 2018 World Cup, their highest finish since 1990, and two consecutive Euros finals.
He lost the 2020 Euros to Italy on penalties and his second final defeat came against Spain last Sunday, with Luiz de la Fuente's Spain side winning 2-1.
