Turkish champions Galatasaray have provided an update on Victor Osimhen’s injury situation after the striker arrived in Istanbul for further checks.
The 26-year-old sustained an ankle injury during the Super Eagles’ 1–0 victory against Rwanda in the World Cup qualifiers and was substituted in the first half.
The injury ruled the former Napoli striker out of the Super Eagles’ crucial clash against South Africa, prompting his return to Turkey for medical evaluation.
In a medical bulletin released on Tuesday, Galatasaray team doctor Yener İnce shared details of Osimhen’s test results.
“A moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) was detected in his ankle ligaments, and the necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible,” the statement read.
In Osimhen’s absence, Tolu Arokodare is expected to lead the Super Eagles’ attack after coming off the bench to score the only goal that secured all three points for Eric Chelle’s side against Rwanda.
Bafana Bafana will host the Super Eagles at the Free State Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein later tonight (Tuesday, September 9).
