Reigning Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray have reopened transfer talks with Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, with hopes of securing his signature in the January transfer window, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to reports from Fanatik, Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk remains a big admirer of the 27-year-old and is determined to bring him to Istanbul after a failed summer pursuit.
The Turkish giants have reportedly re-established contact with Lookman’s camp and are preparing a fresh offer for Atalanta.
Lookman, who was named 2024 African Footballer of the Year, has been one of Serie A’s top performers since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022.
The dynamic winger has contributed 52 goals and 25 assists in 121 appearances across all competitions.
The former Everton and Leicester City man was close to leaving Atalanta during the summer, with Inter Milan, Premier League clubs, and Spanish sides all showing interest.
However, Atalanta rejected Inter’s €45 million offer, refusing to sell to a Serie A rival.
Lookman’s potential switch to Inter dominated headlines throughout the summer transfer window, with the forward reportedly informing Atalanta of his desire to leave.
The saga dragged on for weeks, reaching a boiling point when Lookman publicly demanded a transfer and boycotted training for more than a week in an attempt to force the move.
Despite Inter agreeing personal terms with the Nigerian, including a proposed five-year deal, Atalanta CEO Antonio Percassi refused to approve the transfer, maintaining that while Lookman had been promised an exit in 2025, the club would not sell him to a Serie A rival.
The decision enraged the Super Eagles star, who accused the club of going back on their word. In protest, he embarked on a two-week strike, skipped training sessions without medical justification, and wiped all Atalanta-related content from his social media accounts.
Lookman has returned to the squad this season, making three Serie A appearances so far without scoring or assisting.
The Nigerian forward earned his first Serie A start of the campaign against Como but endured a difficult outing, eventually being substituted in the 73rd minute.
Galatasaray, who pulled off a surprise loan deal for Victor Osimhen last season, are now eyeing another Nigerian star as they aim to bolster their attack for the second half of the campaign.
