Chelsea fans made a desperate plea for Robert Sanchez to be sold after being guilty of a huge blunder in the season-opening win over Fulham.

Blues boss Xabi Alonso has spent big on reinforcements this summer, with Morgan Rogers becoming the most expensive signing in the West Londoners’ history.

But Sanchez, 28, has remained Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper and made a nightmare start to the campaign despite going on to notch a 3-2 win.

The Spaniard somehow allowed Fulham midfielder Josh King’s strike to beat him at his near post.

Sanchez, who was brutally slammed by Premier League icon Shay Given earlier this month, was slow to get down to the ferocious drive and could not keep the shot out just 23 minutes into the new season.

Furious Chelsea fans raced onto social media to hit out at the former Brighton man and call for him to be flogged in the final days of the summer transfer window.

One said: “Sanchez has to go.”

Another added: “Sanchez needs to leave.”

A third chimed in: “The quicker Alonso realises that whatever he’s building at Chelsea would be completely destroyed if Sanchez remains his first choice…”

A fourth noted: “Get Sanchez out of my club. The window is still very much open.”

And a fifth sensationally claimed: “Sack Sanchez please.”

The goalkeeping error came after Joao Pedro gave Chelsea the lead inside 31 seconds.

The Brazilian dinked the ball over onrushing Fulham No. 1 Bernd Leno to write his name into the history books.

It was the quickest goal scored on the opening matchday of the Premier League season.

And Sanchez breathed a huge sigh of relief when Rogers restored Chelsea’s advantage before half-time.

The livewire slotted home after being picked out by fellow summer signing Maxence Lacroix, who joined for £52million from Crystal Palace.

Cole Palmer then added his name to the scoresheet shortly after the break.

But Sanchez made another mistake when he batted Timothy Castagne’s strike straight at Gonzalo Garcia, who reacted quickly to reduce Fulham’s deficit.

Chelsea still managed to hold onto their slender lead and bag all three points in Alonso’s first match in charge.

The Blues are set to face Luton Town in the Carabao Cup second round on Thursday.
