Former Super Eagles coach Peseiro eyes vacant Ghana job

Former Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro has reportedly expressed keen interest in the vacant Black Stars coaching job.

Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz stepped down as head coach of Ghana following their back-to-back defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening two games of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The four-time African champions lost 2-0 away to Hervé Renard’s Côte d’Ivoire side in Bouaké in their opening fixture before suffering another crushing blow against The Gambia, losing 4-2 at home in the second qualifier.

The Ghana Sports Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has set up a five-member committee to recommend a new head coach for the Black Stars by October 9.

According to Lawson Sports, Peseiro is among the coaches who have reportedly submitted their CVs for the vacant role at the GFA.

Peseiro guided the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, losing 2-1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

He left his role on March 1, 2024, after winning 11 of his 22 matches with the Super Eagles, according to SofaScore data.
