Fans charge Amusan after landmark in Paris

Fans have taken to social media to charge world record holder Tobi Amusan following her remarkable season’s best performance of 12.24s at the Paris Diamond League, her fastest time since her historic achievement in Oregon, USA, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian sprint hurdler’s stunning display in the French capital, where she finished second behind Grace Stark of the United States, has sparked widespread celebration amongst supporters who see it as confirmation of her return to world-beating form.

Amusan came storming through the final metres, closing rapidly on Stark, who held on to win with a personal best and meeting record of 12.21s—a time that makes her the fifth-fastest woman ever over the 100m hurdles. Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent finished third in 12.30s.

The 12.24s clocking marks Amusan’s second-fastest time ever, behind only her world record of 12.12s set in 2022.

Athletics enthusiast Lanre Adeogun remained measured in his praise, noting the gradual nature of her improvement.

“One step at a time. With more focus and hard work, she will get there,” he wrote.

Fan Adedotun expressed his excitement, posting, “Make sense. Tobi is back!”

Murphy, @Muphyk, was more emphatic in his support for the 2022 world champion as he wrote, “She is back hopefully she will take her crown back. We are rooting for you. Baby girl go high.”

The performance exceeded even optimistic predictions, with Kene Franklin stating. “We predicted 12.40 or faster but 12.24 is utterly delicious!”

William Bante highlighted the significance of the improvement from her Rabat victory.

“So happy Tobi Amusan has improved her time again. Though she came 2nd in Paris tonight, finishing with 12.24s from 12.45s in Rabat is a big improvement,” Bante wrote.

“Waiting for the World Championships. She could break her world record.”

Others celebrated her competitive spirit, with Ahmad Abba declaring, “The tiger queen runs on the battlefield.”

Bode Ayo simply stated, “There’s no stopping this speedster.”

This performance represents the latest milestone in what has been a steady and impressive resurgence for the Nigerian star throughout the 2025 season.

Amusan’s campaign began modestly with fourth-place finishes in Xiamen (12.74s) and Shaoxing (12.66s). However, she bounced back emphatically with a season-best and meet record 12.45s to claim her first Diamond League win of the year in Rabat last month.

Paris marked her fourth Diamond League outing of the season as she continues to build form and consistency ahead of major championships.

Her consistent performances currently place her fourth in the Diamond League standings with 10 points, behind leaders Stark (23), Danielle Williams (15), and Marione Fourie (12).

With the World Championships on the horizon, Amusan is peaking at just the right time, and her supporters clearly believe the chase for gold—and perhaps another record-breaking moment—is officially on.
