Eric Chelle’s goalkeeping headache deepens as Super Eagles star concedes five

Super Eagles goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye was in goal as his Volos side were thumped 5–0 by Olympiacos in the Greek Cup.

Adeleye, who joined the Greek club in the summer, has been playing second fiddle to Marios Siampanis.

The 25-year-old was making his third appearance for the club when they travelled to face the Greek champions.

Adeleye conceded four goals in the first half before the Greek giants added the icing on the cake in the second half from the penalty spot.

This performance comes amid growing concern over the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping department following Stanley Nwabali’s mistake against Lesotho in the World Cup qualifiers.

With head coach Eric Chelle set to name his squad for the World Cup playoffs next week, it remains to be seen whether Adebayo Adeleye will make the list following the return of Maduka Okoye from betting suspension.

Amas Obasogie is likely to get the nod as third-choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles ahead of next month’s crucial World Cup playoffs.

However, it remains unclear who Eric Chelle will deploy between the sticks against Gabon in November.
