Interim head coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen, reportedly wants to lure FC Porto striker Samu Omorodion to commit his international future to Nigeria.

OwnGoalNigeria reports that Eguavoen is a huge admirer of the 20-year-old, who was part of Spain’s Olympic-winning team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 59-year-old reportedly sent his well wishes to the former Deportivo Alaves striker after Spain’s triumph at the Olympic Games.

Omorodion is still eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite making some appearances for Spain’s U-23 team.

The former Granada forward was close to joining Premier League giants Chelsea this summer, but the deal collapsed after the Blues and Atletico Madrid failed to reach a concrete agreement.

The young striker later sealed a move to FC Porto in the Primeira Liga, where he has already found the back of the net three times for the club.

It remains to be seen how things will pan out in Eguavoen’s bid to convince Omorodion to switch to the Super Eagles after the player had already declared his intent to represent La Roja.

“Spain has given me the opportunity, and I am very grateful for it. I don’t think about Nigeria. My goal is to debut with the senior side and build my career here in Spain,” Omorodion said in quotes by AS.

Omorodion was born in Melilla, Spain, to Nigerian parents, which makes him eligible to represent Nigeria at the international level as per FIFA regulations.
