Ebi admits tough Matildas test

Super Falcons captain, Onome Ebi, has admitted that their second group game against Australia at the ongoing Women’s World Cup will be a tough encounter, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ebi, who missed the Falcons’ opening goalless draw against Canada Friday, is one of three players at the tournament making their sixth appearance at the Women’s World Cup.

Brazil’s Marta and Christine Sinclair of Canada are the other players at this year’s tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

The 40-year-old says the team is confident ahead of the clash following the performance against Canada – the reigning Olympic queens.

“We are in very high spirits, I can tell you,” Ebi told thenff.com.

“It is the day after that massive point and we are already looking forward to our second match. The Aussies will not be easy, but we knew before arriving in Australia that no team at this tournament will be easy.”

The seven-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations participant and a four-time winner of the continental showpiece was part of the Nigeria team that lost 2-0 to Australia in a Group D encounter at the 2015 Women’s World Cup edition in Canada also adds that the Falcons have a good chance of making a difference at the tournament.

“We have a huge chance and all it takes to do very well in the tournament,” she told BBC.

“When it comes to experience, speedy players, young players, strong players — we have all it takes to make a difference. With the calibre of players we have, our fans should expect a lot from us. We are ready to give all we’ve got to make this one of our best.”
