Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph, says he is pleased with the performance of the Golden Eaglets at the just-concluded West African Football Union B championship in Togo despite their defeat in the final.

Fatai Amoo’s side were dethroned as the West African champions by Ivory Coast, following a 3-2 defeat in the final at the Stade de Kegue, Lome, Togo on Monday.

Despite the defeat, five-time world champions Eaglets qualified for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations billed for March in Morocco, much to the delight of the Olympic gold medallist.

“The team was hurriedly assembled because of what’s going on globally. We all know there is COVID-19 everywhere and the rule is that there should be no contact,” Dosu told The PUNCH.

“The Ivoirians we played against were assembled from ASEC Mimosas and Africa Sports junior teams. They’ve already prepared well in their academies because they know each other.

“The most important thing was for the team to qualify for the AFCON in Morocco, which they’ve done and I believe the coaches assemble a better team that will represent the country in Morocco. So, the boys and the coaches have done well.”
