Genk forward Cyriel Dessers says he is unhappy over Gernot Rohr’s decision to leave him out of the Super Eagles 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone next week.

The 25-year-old however says he will keep fighting to reclaim his place in the team.

Speaking with AOIFootball, Dessers who made his Eagles debut in the 1-1 draw against Tunisia in an international friendly in Austria last month, said he hopes to keep giving his best for his club to regain the trust of the Eagles’ coach.

The striker was on target for Genk last weekend, his third in the campaign.

“It was nice to be on the score sheet again this weekend. I felt it’s been a long time coming for me and I hope to build on this goal in my subsequent matches.

“On not getting a call up for the National team for games against Sierra Leone, personally I was not happy after knowing I did not make the cut. But then again, it shows I have to play more at club level and hopefully tries to always be at my best week in week out,” Dessers told AOIFootball.

Rohr had called Dessers’ Genk teammate, Paul Onuachu as replacement for Moses Simon after suffering a groin injury in Nantes 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday.
