Dessers set to compete with Onuachu

Genk forward, Cyriel Dessers is confident about giving his fellow countryman Paul Onuachu good competition for a place in Genk's starting eleven as the new season is underway.

The 27-year-old forward was on target when Genk lost to Club Brugge by 3-2 on Sunday, July 24 in their first game of the new season in the Belgium Pro League.

Dessers spent the previous campaign on loan at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie where he produced a remarkable performance in the maiden UEFA Europa Conference League scoring 10 goals to emerge as the competition's top scorer.

Despite having a decent season on his loan spell at Rotterdam, Feyenoord could not afford his asking price of €4m to tie him down on a permanent deal.

Speaking in an interview after their defeat to Club Brugge, the Dutch-born Nigerian hinted that he remains uncertain about his future at Genk, adding that he can make things difficult for his compatriot Onuachu.

“I do not know whether Feyenoord is still an option, you will have to ask that there,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws as per PUNCH Sports Extra.

“Cremonese is not a big club? But Serie A is a top competition and I dream of that. It all remains to be seen, although I think everyone has been able to see that I give everything for Genk and that I can make it difficult for Onuachu.”
