Dessers close to Cremonese move

Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers is on the verge of joining newly promoted Serie A side Cremonese, after the club intensified their efforts to sign the striker from Belgian side Racing Genk.

Cremonese have already sealed a loan deal with a buy option for Dessers’ compatriot and former Venezia forward David Okereke from Belgian champions Club Brugge.

Ahead of their first season in the topflight, the Tigers are looking to further reinforce their attack and have identified the 27-year-old as their primary target and negotiations between Genk and Cremonese are coming to a positive conclusion, according to reports.

Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio said Cremonese’s sporting director Simone Giacchetta travelled to Belgium on Monday to iron out the final details regarding a deal for Dessers.

“The Nigerian striker could soon become a new Cremonese player,” the transfer expert wrote on his website.

“The parties are getting closer and Alvini could welcome a very important reinforcement for the offensive department in time for the start of the championship. Sporting director Simone Giacchetta left on Monday for Belgium to define the final details.

“The Nigerian, last year, had been the protagonist of the Feyenoord season. At the end of the season, however, the Dutch club had to say goodbye. Dessers has returned to Genk and could now leave the Belgian club immediately to join Serie A.”

Should the deal go through, Dessers will become the third Nigerian to complete a move to the Serie A during the transfer window, after Benfica’s Tyronne Ebuehi joined Empoli on a permanent deal last month.

Winger Ademola Lookman is also close to joining Atalanta as he underwent a medical with the Italians on Wednesday.
