Manchester City's 1-1 draw against Liverpool had a tempered ending as striker Darwin Nunez and manager Pep Guardiola confronted each other in a heated argument.

City and Liverpool battled it out at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League's first game after the international break, and the points were shared between the two sides.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring for the Citizens in the first half before English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold silenced his critics with a brilliant equaliser in the second half.

Both teams had an opportunity to win it but wasted chances, particularly with Liverpool striker Nunez in his usual element of missing goal-scoring opportunities today.

The backroom staff and players were involved in the traditional handshakes after the game; Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp exchanged pleasantries before an incident ensued.

As picked up by Optus Sport cameras, Nunez confronted Guardiola, and the two hurled words at each other.

Klopp moved away from the Uruguayan while his assistant Pep Ljinders pulled the City boss back.

It was unclear why the two went at each other, judging from no history between them, and per talkSPORT, Klopp and Guardiola exchanged pleasantries afterwards.
