Cyriel Dessers: Three times unsung Super Eagles hero has won Golden Boot award

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has officially clinched the Scottish Premiership Football League (SPFL) Golden Boot award for the 2024/25 season after scoring 18 goals for the Gers.

The 30-year-old netted his 18th league goal of the campaign as Rangers played out a 2-2 draw against Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday, May 17.

The former Cremonese forward finished two goals ahead of his closest competitors, Simon Murray of Dundee United and Daizen Maeda of Celtic.

Dessers became the first Rangers player to claim the Golden Boot award since Alfredo Morelos in the 2017/18 season.

Sharing his reaction on social media regarding his latest feat, the six-cap Super Eagles striker stated that the Golden Boot was a reward for his perseverance despite enduring a difficult start to the season.

This latest Golden Boot award marks the third of Dessers' professional career.

The Dutch-born Nigerian was the top scorer in the Eredivisie during the 2019/20 season while playing for Heracles Almelo.

Dessers was joint top scorer alongside Steven Berghuis, with both players netting 15 goals apiece.

He later won the top scorer award in the maiden edition of the UEFA Conference League in the 2021/22 season while on loan at Feyenoord from Genk, registering 10 goals in 12 matches.
