Kayode Adeniyi, the 47-year-old driver of the ill-fated Lexus SUV that crashed on Monday, killing two of former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua’s closest friends, has been arraigned.

He was charged to Sagamu Magistrate Court for manslaughter, reckless driving and others, The Nation gathered.

Recall the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had blamed the driver for overspeeding and wrongful overtaking, which reportedly led to the car crashing into a stationary truck on the highway.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement on Friday, noted that the case has been adjourned to 20th January, 2026.

The Nation reports that Adeniyi, a long-standing member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, was discharged from the hospital in Lagos late on New Year’s Eve and driven two hours to Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, where the fatal crash occurred.

Babaseyi said, “Update: The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026 and the case has been adjourned to 20th January, 2026.”

Adeniyi was allegedly driving way over the 65mph speed limit for the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when he lost control after a tyre burst during an overtaking manoeuvre near Danco.

The Lexus with registration number KRD 850 HN,, carrying Joshua and two of his training staff, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, smashed into an illegally parked truck, which was carrying soya beans.
