Club Brugge beat AC Milan to Nigeria's most sought-after youngster

Belgian side Club Brugge have announced the signing of young Nigerian international Raphael Onyedika from FC Midtjylland.

The Super Eagles prospect signed a five-year deal with the Belgium Pro League side which will see him remain at the club until 2027.

The club announced the signing of the young midfielder on Sunday, August 28 via their social media handles.

A statement released on the club's website reads:

“Club Brugge and FC Midtjylland reached an agreement for the transfer of Raphael Onyedika,”

“Onyedika (21) is a defensive midfielder who can also play centrally in the defence. He was trained at FC Ebedei in Nigeria and came to Europe in 2019.”

The 21-year-old was also on the radar of Italian champions AC Milan.

The I Rossoneri wanted the Nigerian international as a possible replacement for Ivorian international Franc Kessie who left the club to join Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

The reigning Serie A champions couldn't meet Midtjylland's valuation for the young midfielder as their initial €4m bid was declined as per reports.

Onyedika leaves Danish League after being named the ‘Promise of the Year’ last season.
