Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Liverpool in the first leg semi-final of UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Chukwueze was on parade as the Spanish side bowed to the Reds at Anfield, thanks to an own goal from Pervis Estupinan on the 53r minute and Sadio Mane's 55th minute drive.

The 22 year-old Nigeria who played from the start was quiet all through the game and failed to reproduce the magic that saw him grab the goal that eliminated Bayern Munich in the previous round.

He was later replaced by French-born Senegalese international Boulaye Dia in the 72nd minute.

Villarreal will be hoping to turn the tables when they host Liverpool in the second leg next week.

The Spanish side have overachieved reaching the semi-final of the Champions League, but the dream of playing their first ever final is still within their reach.
