Carabao Cup: Arokodare's goal not enough as Chelsea edge Wolves in a seven-goal thriller

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare was on target as Wolves crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing 4–3 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old scored three minutes into the second half to reduce the deficit after Andrey Santos, Tyrique George, and Willian Estevão had given the Blues a 3–0 lead before the interval.

David Wolfe scored in the 73rd minute to make it 3–2 before Jamie Gittens added another goal to restore the Blues’ two-goal lead with a minute of regulation time left to play.

Wolfe added another goal for the Old Gold in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough as Enzo Maresca’s side cruised into the next round of the League Cup.

It was Arokodare’s second goal for his new side after joining the club in the summer.

Wolves manager Vítor Pereira, in his post-match reaction, stated that the Nigerian international is improving his fitness after a series of training sessions with the team.

“It’s normal because now he has more training with us. His fitness is better now than before, he understands what we need from him, and he is more connected with his teammates. He is ready to help us.”
