Buruk hails dream signing Osimhen as Chelsea join race

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has described Victor Osimhen as a “dream” signing after the Nigeria striker delivered one of the most prolific seasons in the Turkish club’s recent history, even as Chelsea emerge as suitors for his signature this summer.

Osimhen scored 22 goals across all competitions, including 15 in just 20 league appearances, and contributed a vital brace as Galatasaray clinched the Süper Lig title with a 4-2 win over Antalyaspor. Buruk said the forward’s contribution went far beyond goals.

“Victor is a team player, not just a striker who scores goals. He was a dream for Galatasaray. We paid €75 million. It’s the first time a Turkish team has paid such a price. It’s a record, and we spent all our money on him,” Buruk said.

“Osimhen works hard, scores, and assists. He plays for the team, not just for goals and assists. When we all play with this mentality, no one can stop us.”

Despite those sentiments, Osimhen’s performances have made him one of the most sought-after forwards in European football heading into the summer. According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are firmly among the clubs monitoring his situation, with the 27-year-old’s camp and intermediaries already in active discussions with several elite clubs over a potential move.

The report adds that Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been presented with Osimhen’s profile, but Chelsea remain in the race, having tracked the forward for several years.

The arrival of Xabi Alonso as manager is seen as a significant factor, with the club believing his reputation can help attract elite talent to Stamford Bridge even without Champions League football to offer.

TEAMtalk reports that Galatasaray are determined to retain Osimhen and would demand around £87m before considering any sale.
