One footballer that plies his trade with Premier League side, Brighton & Hove Albion FC, has tested positive for coronavirus.

The club's chief executive Paul Barber made the announcement on Thursday as the UK battles the deadly virus with over 9,849 recorded cases and 477 deaths, according to Worldometers.

The statement reads:

"We've had three players tested, one has tested positive. We're not testing them routinely, we're only testing them when symptoms emerge," said Barber.

"But the one that tested positive was just today, so that's unfortunate but he's OK and he's obviously getting the care that he needs at the moment."

The player remains unnamed at the time of this report.
