Breaking: UEFA bans Man City from Champions League, Europa for two years

The European football governing body Uefa, has slammed a two-year ban on English Champions, Manchester City.

City were found guilty by Uefa’s club financial control body (CFCB) of having falsely inflated their sponsorship revenues, when they made submissions for the FFP compliance process. The guilty finding follows an investigation sparked by the publication of “leaked” emails and documents by the German magazine Der Spiegel in November 2018. [Guardian]

The hammer landed massively today when the football body announced that Manchester City has been banned from European competition, which includes the Champions League and the Europa League the next two seasons.

It could affect the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup as well.

The ban is expected to take effect from next football season 2020/2021 and fined €30m (£25m) after they were found to have seriously misled European football’s governing body and broken financial fair play rules.

The club is expected to appeal the ban.
