French club, Girondins de Bordeaux, have ruled Samuel Kalu out of Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash against Lens at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique, with the player now set to miss his first game of the season.

According to French newspaper, Sud Ouest, the Nigeria international was prevented from taking part in the match-day five fixture following his involvement with the Super Eagles for the World Cup qualifiers against Liberia.

The winger helped Nigeria secured three points at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos, before he was ruled out of the Cape Verde clash after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Several other reports, PUNCH Sports Extra not included, however, said the player’s result turned negative.

But on Friday, the French newspaper confirmed that the player had been asked to quarantine for seven days and has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash against Lens.“Samuel Kalu and Gideon Mensah are in quarantine for seven and 10 days after returning from countries where COVID is actively circulating,” the newspaper wrote.

“Samuel Kalu and Gideon Mensah will not. The two players return respectively from countries classified “orange” (Nigeria and Cape Verde) and “red” (South Africa) by the French authorities. Both are not yet vaccinated – this will be the case next Monday – they must respect a quarantine of seven and 10 days from their landing in France on Thursday.

“Both players will therefore miss the reception of Lens, and Mensah will also be unavailable for the trip to Saint-Etienne the following weekend.
