Boniface reveals secret behind Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive form

Victor Boniface has refused to take all the accolade for Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive start to the new season.

Xabi Alonso’s side are unbeaten in all competitions this season and sit at the top of Bundesliga table.

The 22-year-old has scored nine goals in 10 games across all competitions for Die Werkself.

Boniface said his teammates have contributed to the team’s overall performance so far.

“It’s not down to me. Leverkusen signed six or seven players, and mine is to help the team and they’re doing the same. This is not just about me, it’s also for the team, “ he told OmaSports.

“Coming to a top club like Leverkusen, playing for the first team, and helping the team has been good. For me it’s a surprise, but it’s football, anything can happen.”

Boniface also reserved special praise for manager Alonso.

“He’s a great guy, great coach, and a great football player. The passion is there and he knows what he wants. Working with him makes me happy.”

The Nigeria international joined Bayer Leverkusen from Belgian Pro League club, Union St Gilloise this summer.

The striker won the Bundesliga Player of the Month and Rookie of Month in August.

He has also been nominated for both awards for September.
