Boniface identifies major lesson from Super Eagles’ draw against Saudi Arabia

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface believes Nigeria has the individual quality, but they could be better if they play as a team, Soccernet reports.

The Super Eagles played Saudi Arabia at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao on Friday in one of their preparatory games for the 2023 AFCON.

The Super Eagles were the favourites to win the tie because of the gulf in quality between both sides. Jose Peseiro’s lads put up a good performance in the first half, but they failed to score.

However, the scoring feat began in the second half. After Saudi Arabia took the lead off a goalkeeping blunder from Francis Uzoho, A quick double put Nigeria ahead.

It looked like the three-time African champions would pick the victory, but a late free-kick goal from Mohamed Kanno ensured that it ended all square at 2-2.

Speaking after the game, Boniface, who got his second cap for Nigeria, believes they need to learn how to function as a team.

“We have really good individuals in the team, but it is just football,” Boniface exclusively told Soccernet.

“It will take some time for us to build something, which we are trying. But on the long run, we can achieve our aim.”

Next up for Nigeria is another friendly game against Mozambique, and Peseiro would be hoping for a more cohesive performance from his lads.
