Balogun eyes new Rangers deal

Leon Balogun Leon Balogun

Defender Leon Balogun hopes to sign a contract extension with new Scottish champions, Glasgow Rangers, before the end of the season, The PUNCH reports.

The Nigeria international, who joined the Gers in 2020 on a one-year deal from Brighton, will be out of contract in the summer.

Balogun has made 14 starts and four substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers this season.

The defender has also made six starts and one substitute appearance in the Europa League for the Gers this campaign.

The former Mainz 05 defender says he sees himself remaining at Ibrox next season to help Steven Gerrard’s side defend their title – as well as having a crack at making the Champions League group stage.

“I am pretty confident there will be something to talk about soon. I see no reason why I won’t be here (at Rangers),” Balogun told Scottish Sun.

The former Fortuna Dusseldorf and Darmstadt player has been called up by Nigeria for this month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho. He is expected to join up with the rest of his teammates in camp on March 22 in Lagos.
