Aribo tastes another heavy defeat with Southampton

Joe Aribo Joe Aribo

Super Eagles star Joe Aribo and his Southampton teammates have nothing to cheer after stumbling to an embarrassing 4-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Aribo was dropped to the bench by coach Ralph Hasenhuttl, whose side went into the game looking for their first win in three games.

The Nigerian was introduced in the 65th minute for Stuart Armstrong, but he made no impact as the game had been won and lost.

Aribo managed just 14 touches, with no effort on goal.

Miguel Almirón got the opener for the Magpies, before Chris Wood added the second.

Former Arsenal attacker Joe Willock added the third, but Romain Perraud pulled one back for the Saints one minute later.

In form Brazilian Bruno Guimares sealed a memorable win for Newcastle United with the fourth goal in added time.
