Aribo in EPL summer transfer ‘Flop XI’

Joe Aribo Joe Aribo

Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo has been named in the Premier League’s summer transfer window ‘Flop XI’ of the 2022/23 season that was released by British tabloid, The Sun.

Big things were expected of Aribo after he helped Glasgow Rangers to the Europa League final last season and won the Scottish Cup with the Light Blues.

However, the 26-year-old has not showed his true qualities yet, failing to provide a single assist in 22 matches in all competitions and with just two league goals.

He last found the back of the net on October 1, 2022 and the Saints need him to start producing if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto arrived with a big reputation having previously played for Barcelona and Juventus — but has looked like a fish out of water between the sticks.

Neto has been linked to a number of clubs and is likely to be sold in the summer.

CENTRE-BACK – Kalidou Koulibaly

After eight seasons at Napoli — including 236 league appearances — Chelsea signed Koulibaly for £33m in 2022. But he has never looked very convincing before losing his place in the starting line-up after struggling for form in recent weeks.

CENTRE-BACK – Duje Caleta-Car

Where did it all go wrong for Duje Caleta-Car?

After falling out with Southampton manager Nathan Jones, the Croatian suffered the ignominy of being forced to play in the development squad.

RIGHT-BACK – Thilo Kehrer

West Ham could have been forgiven for thinking they had pulled off a bit of a coup after they signed Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain last year.

But in hindsight they probably wish that they hadn’t.

CENTRE-MIDFIELDER – Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips on the other hand has been hampered by injuries during his seven-month stint in Manchester. As well as costing £42m, City are reportedly paying Phillips £150,000 a week.
