Applause for Walid Regragui for saying their shock victory over Portugal is for Africa

Morocco's Coach Walid Regragui says his team's qualification to the World Cup semi-finals is a win for Africa.

This comes after the Atlas Lions beat Portugal in a pulsating quarter-finals clash.

Regragui when asked if today's win against Portugal was for Africa or Arab World, said: “Just to say I'm not here to be a politician, we represent Morocco and obviously Morocco and Moroccans are my priority"

"But we're also African like Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Tunisia, so we hope to fly the flag of African football high”.

His statement has generated some positive reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Walid Regragui described Morocco as the “Rocky of this World Cup” after his team earned a historic victory over Portugal to become the first African team to reach the semi-finals.

Regragui said his players had learned to dream and acknowledged that their surprise run had captured hearts across the world.

Morocco have also overcome Belgium and Spain and will face France on Wednesday after Les Bleus’ 2-1 victory over England.

Regragui, whose side were again roared on by thousands of Arabs from across the world, said he felt Morocco had grown into the neutral’s favourite.
