Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan was second time unlucky in the final of an international tournament as she placed fourth in the 100m hurdles final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday.

Amusan finished fourth in 12.60secs behind Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (12.37secs), United States’ Kendra Harrison (12.52secs) and Jamaica’s Megan Tapper (12.55secs).

Amusan had also finished fourth at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, while she crashed in the semi-finals of the Rio Olympics.

In basketball, D’Tigress crashed out of the Olympics after losing their third match 102-83 to hosts Japan on Monday. They had earlier lost to the USA and France in their Group B fixtures.

Japan won all four quarters, taking the first 30-22, before claiming the second 21-16. The third quarter also went the same way with a 33-19 victory for the Asians, with the final quarter also ending 26-18 in their favour.

In the 200m, Grace Nwokocha ran a Personal Best time of 22.47secs to place third in her heat behind Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou and Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller-Uibo, to qualify for the semi-final.

She achieved the same feat in the semi-final, but it was not enough to secure a place in the final as she placed fourth behind Ta Lou, Miller-Uibo and Switzerland’s Mujinga Kambundji.

Blessing Oborududu secured Nigeria’s first medal at the Olympics when she defeated Soronzonboldyn Battsetseg to qualify for the final of the women’s freestyle 68kg.
